MikroTik knew about the issue since at least October 2022, but they only fixed it in their latest update, not the older version that most people were using. The problem has a high severity level, meaning it’s critical. There are hundreds of thousands of vulnerable MikroTik routers connected to the internet.
MikroTik routers have been targeted by hackers before to create botnets, which are groups of devices controlled by attackers. In the past, hackers have used these routers for big cyberattacks.
